WED. UPDATE: Ratings, WWE movie notes, Lagana, Mania 2013, Ultimate Warrior on wrestling show,Flair

Wednesday's News and Links
--Regarding the earlier post on WrestleMania, it will most likely be announced for April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium.  The March 31 date would be highly unlikely since that's Easter Sunday (thanks to Kevin Lagasse and Devin Cutting)

--In the ratings for last week on cable, USA was No. 1 with a 2.1 prime time average to 1.8 for Disney and 1.6 for The History Channel.  Syfy Was No. 10 at 1.0 while FX was No. 11 at 0.9.  Spike once again failed to crack the top 25.  Last week's two hours of Raw were No. 6 and No. 9 overall, as well as No. 7 and No. 9 in 18-34 and 18-49.

--Regarding a note in this week's Observer and David Lagana's title as Director of Creative Writing for TNA, he was given that title on 11/1, when he was first hired by TNA, so that title is not reflective of anything related to Vince Russo leaving the company.

--WWE has once again changed its business approach to the movies. They announced a three movie deal with Fox Home Entertainment which will include "The Marine: Homefront," the third movie in the series.  John Cena will NOT be in the lead role.

--Dana White said yesterday that there is a chance the 6/16 show with Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen may be held in Rio de Janeiro instead of Sao Paulo, but Sao Paulo is the first choice.  There is a noise ordinance in the city post midnight and because of the time difference, the UFC show is likely to last until close to 3 a.m. local time with the main event going on last.  There is no other venue available except the outdoor soccer stadium.

White also said that he has been granted more control of Strikeforce, saying they had a meeting with Showtime this week that went well.  He said things are going to slowly change but didn't give details.

White also said that Carlos Condit will not be fighting until Georges St. Pierre returns.  So if Jake Ellenberger wins impressive tonight, he'll face the Condit vs. GSP winner, as opposed to facing Condit first.

--The next WWE movie, "Bending the Rules," starring Adam "Edge" Copeland, has a very small theatrical release starting 3/9.

--The Ultimate Warrior will be making an appearance at the 3/23 Northeast Wrestling show in Poughkeepsie, NY at the Mid Hudson Civic Center.  The show also has John Morrison, Melina, Velvet Sky, Matt Hardy, Fit Finlay and Jerry Lawler. Here's a news story on the show. (thanks to Phil Strum and many others)

--Chuck Langerman's daily pro wrestling trivia concerns Roderick James McMcMahon, better known as Jess McMahon.  Jess McMahon is the grandfather of Vincent Kennedy McMahon, and was the first pro wrestling promoter in the family.  Jess McMahon was born in New York in 1882, a son of hotel owners who immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland.  Jess McMahon was a very smart child, and ended up graduating from Manhattan College at the age of 17 with a commercial degree.  He was a big sports fan growing up.  He was a boxing matchmaker and promoter at Madison Square Garden and promoted his first pro wrestling show in 1925, and continued to promote wrestling in the Northeast into the early 50s.  His son, Vincent James McMahon, followed in his footsteps promoting out of Washington, DC in the late 50s.
